welcome

what is the point

this is my first attempt at opinionated writing on the internet. Will anyone read this? I doubt it. I hope someday someone does.

Why am I doing this?

I’ve always been fascinated by people’s blogs. Smart people. People who seem passionate about what they do. I first stumbled upon one when I found Nicky Case’s website through their Evolution of Trust game. I went down a rabbit hole and read a lot of the blog posts of theirs. It was a very engaging night, back in college.

Since then, I’ve read several blog posts of several cool people. Always finding it fascinating how well articulated these posts are and how interesting these topics are. I don’t know if I’ll be any good on either of those fronts. It has always been an itch of mine to start my own website, or blog, and write about things I’m passionate about.

Why now?

Why not? Better late than never, I suppose. I have tried my hand at coding my own website, back in 2022 (pre-ChatGPT). While I do hold a degree in Computer Science, I’m not good at development (read: I hate HTML/CSS). I tried learning, finished the HTML course at freeCodeCamp, quickly remembering why I hate this aspect of development, and quickly gave up.

Then, I tried hooking up my bearblog with my domain (the one you’re currently reading) sometime last year but it didn’t feel unique enough. The simplest answer to why now is because I can now. AI has commoditised development. Anyone can vibe code anything they can dream of (almost). That’s how I’ve landed up on this. After trying some mock ups of website ideas, I decided to go ahead with the terminal theme you’re reading things in. Thank you Claude! Rest assured, while AI is being used (extensively) in the scaffolding of the website, any written text here is purely my words, completely unfiltered.

I don’t think I have anything overtly unique to say, but I do want my thoughts to exist on here, for the public to see. Whether they will see is a different question altogether, something I’m not very concerned about at the time of writing this.

What to expect?

Opinions. On a wide and varied range of topics. Here’s a non-exhaustive list of my interests, expect thoughts on all of these (and more!):

  • Software Development
  • Gaming
  • Movies & TV Shows
  • Writing and Storytelling
  • Pokemon
  • Life itself
  • Building things
  • Learning things
  • Math I like to think I have a very logical approach to things, but I’m also quite emotionally charged, that’ll reflect in the posts. I hope someone finds some value here. I hope I find some value here. We’re just getting started.
